A/FD scratchboard

Here is another scratchboard I recently finished up.  I will have prints available at torque fest http://vintagetorquefest.com/  It is a great car show that has many great activities going on for the whole family and a great art show to boot!!  John Wells hosts this amazing get together of hot rods/motorcycles from all around and everyone leaves with a smile on their face.  I can't wait for this weekend.  It is always a good time to meet old friends and make new ones.  I set up my art booth and sell prints and limited original artwork as well.  Artists get to help out with his daughters charity by making a design/artwork on a picked item each year.  This year is the surfboard. We were given a blank metal board and left to do what we wanted.  I tried to mimic a scratchboard design with two colors instead of one.  I like the simplicity of it.  Hope you enjoy.  If you've never been to this show, try it out, you won't be disappointed!!  Nate Grice

36 Ford Scratchboard

Kevin Anderson owns this amazing 36 Ford.  It is one of my favorite models of cars, meaning a lot considering I'm a Mopar man.  It is so smooth looking, I have been wanting to do something with it for awhile now.  They have such great body lines and look good as tail draggers or not.  Just one more thing to add to my bucket list.  It is done 9"x12".  If he doesn't see it here first, he may be suprised to see it at a show coming up that I'll be vending my art at.  I always like to surprise people with custom art of their own vehicle.  Hope you enjoy it.  Nate Grice

I'll be vending at Torque Fest this year coming up in May from the 3rd - 5th.  Come to Iowa and check it out.  Its a great show!!!

Erie fireman commission pencil drawing

Here is my latest pencil drawing.  I was contacted to do a commission of a firefighter and his dog in front of a burning house.  It was left to me to do the rest.  She wanted me to incorporate an American flag if possible, so I made his helmet one.  It came out great.  I have never tried drawing fire before with pencil and to make it all work together, took time.  I have about 30 hours in this drawing.  There are many small details that can be seen after studying it.  I had fun doing this one.  This is one of my "firefighter" drawings I have been commissioned to do.  Check out my previous ones on older blog posts.  Nate Grice
Thanks Ericka!!

Tom Dunn "Pencil Drawing"

This is a 11"x14" pencil drawing of Tom Dunn, the famous driver doing his thing from the hey-days of racing.  I still have a passion for front engine dragsters and can't get enough of them.  I wanted to do another pencil drawing to depict motion.  I had fun doing this one, and finished it just in time for Iron Invasion this fall.  I have prints as well as the original for sale if interested.  I hope to get to some nostalgic events next year to see some more of these pieces of history and get more inspiration for new artwork.  Hope you enjoy, Nate Grice

Champagne Taste Scratchboard

Here is another 9"x12" scratchboard that I did this late summer.  It is Dorr Johnson’s wickedly cool ’30 Ford coupe.  I have seen this beautiful ride at many shows and finally took some time to do some art of it.  I hope the original can get to his hands in the future.  I have prints available also of this, up to 13"x19" in high quality giclee ink.  The car is a gold color with matching painted rims.  It's a very clean hotrod that is appreciated by many!!  Here is a link to the article in Street Rodder about it.  http://www.streetrodderweb.com/features/1112sr_1930_ford_coupe/viewall.html

Rat Fink "Army Rat"

Torque Fest this spring had a charity drive that asked artists to try their own spin on the famous Rat Fink.  He is typically green with a red shirt with initials R.F. on the front of it.  I decided to do something different.  These started out as plain aluminum blanks and I went from there.  It was auctioned off at the show and raised money for his foundation, Helping Hannah's Heart.  I have done something for John Wells each year, and hope to continue in the future.  It is a great cause and he puts on a great show as well.  I recently was an art vendor at his Iron Invasion show in Woodstock in October.   Nate Grice

"Bar Hopper" Scratchboard

This is a 9"x12" scratchboard I did of a bar hopper bike.  I wanted to try something different and test my skills and went for a custom fish scale tank "paint" treatment.  It turned out awesome!!  I have the original for sale still if your interested as well as prints.  Just email me for details.  I will hopefully do some more bike scratches this winter in my downtime.  I have been working on a garage addition all summer so I haven't had time to work on much art.  Hope posting these forgotten pieces gets you by for now.  Nate Grice

54 Kustom scratchboard

Here is a 9"x12" one of  a kind scratchboard I did to donate to the Detroit Autorama charity auction.  I don't know how much $ it raised, but I hope it brought a lot for a good cause.  It was one of my favorites so far.  I vended at Detroit and had a blast, it was a long weekend and made lots of new friends, as well as catching up with old ones.  I wish we had more time to see some of the museums and cool sites there.  Maybe next time....Nate Grice

"Sky Wheelie" Scratchboard

Here is my latest scratchboard. I still have a huge addiction to F.E.D's. I can't get enough of drawing/ scratching them. I hope to make a painting of one real soon. Anyways, this is my rendition of a sky wheelie in one. I can't imagine the feeling of the driver as you only see sky and keep your foot in it! Maybe someday... The original is 8"x10". Available for sale. I also have prints available in 11"x14" or 13"x19". As of now, all prints I will sell will be giclee, on fine art paper. They will last a lifetime. Hope you dig it, Nate Grice.

Joe Petrali "land speed record" painting

Here is Joe Petrali onboard his record setting "knucklehead" Harley Davidson. The year was 1937. On March 13, this EL Factory Streamliner established a land speed record, racing up to 136.183 miles per hour on the hard-packed sands at Daytona Beach, Florida. The speed run was conducted to promote Harley-Davidson's new "Knucklehead" engine. Harley racing team rider Joe Petrali was aboard the bike for the record run. Petrali left Harley in 1938 to join the team that helped Howard Hughes build the Spruce Goose airplane.

The original acrylic painting is 16"x20". Prints will be available. Contact me if interested.

Hope to do some more in this series soon. Nate Grice

Atlas Oil Scratchboard

Here is my most recent scratchboard. The original is 8"x10". I have wanted to do something with the Atlas Oil Tools dragster for awhile now. So after I finished a few commission christmas presents I knocked this one out. I wanted to make one to look in "motion" so to speak. It turned out pretty cool. I will have prints available for Autorama in Detroit next month. Hope to have many new pieces done this year! Nate Grice

Commission Pencil "Cuda"

Here is a recently completed commission pencil drawing I did for a friend. It is a beautiful 70' Hemi Cuda. It was recently showcased at the Mopar Nationals in Ohio last month for http://www.bighemicustoms.com/ It is black on black. This was challenging to keep the reflections look real and make it to look like a black car. It turned out great! I actually didn't want to give up the piece, but its now in the hands of the owner. I had a great time with this one. I am open for more commission work if interested. Email at nategrice@gmail.com for more info. Nate Grice

"Nanook" Scratchboard

Here is my latest scratchboard. It is 8"x10". I have always like this image and wanted to draw it. I decided to try it on scratchboard instead. I just got prints made hot off the press for my next show this weekend. I will be at Sins of Steel in Michigan. If your in the area stop by, it will be a great time. 70 Challenger Painting

Here is my latest painting. One of my best friends was recently married. His wife asked me to make him something special with his car involved. I wanted to do a pencil drawing but was limited on time. I really like how this turned out. I painted it gallery style also, with the image rolling around the corners. It is acrylic 16"x20". He recieved it at the rehearsal dinner from her. He was totally shocked and loved it, as did she! I am honored to make them a cherished piece of art that is personal! Let me know if there is something I can make for you!

Board track Painting

Here is my latest painting of a board track racer. It is acrylic 18"x24". I decided to use the same color scheme as the roadster painting. It turned out great! I had some prints made of this and sold out what I brought to the show last week at Vintage Torque Fest. I will be having more prints made soon. Email me if interested. It is painted around the edges also for the gallery look. I also painted a cross for torque fest for charity. It is done mostly in one-shot. I painted a coupe, a stromberg, and a copy of "Brown Dog Welding" motorcycle creation made of nuts and bolts. Also pinstriped a hubcap which was laying around the garage that I sold. Hope you enjoy!! Working on new art soon!! Summer's Busy!!!

New Paintings!!!

I have never been into painting much, but bought some canvas and gave it a shot. I really enjoyed doing these two pieces. Painting definitely relaxes me and is gratifying when completed. I will be doing more paintings in the future and hope to do commission work for these as well as pencil and scratchboard art. If you have any questions feel free to send me an email.

The first painting I did was the F.E.D. shot of the driver. It is 18"x24" gallery style canvas.

The second one of the roadster is 16"x20". I call it "Heading Home".

Hope you enjoy. Nate Grice
